Hello! And welcome to Cupcakes and Butterflies Textiles.
It's run by me, Suzie Rees, from my home in South Wales. I live near the beautiful medieval castle in Caerphilly and can actually see the turrets from my house.
I have always enjoyed sewing and love textiles so setting up my own business is pretty much my dream job!
Why "Cupcakes and Butterflies"? Well, I like cupcakes (baking and eating) and I love butterflies and try to attract them to my garden with insect friendly plants. So there you go!!!
Cupcakes and Butterflies originally started as a hobby/business a few years ago when I was inspired by some fabulous furnishing fabric in a local factory shop (sadly now closed) My husband thought it would make fantastic handbags - not something I had made before, so I bought a load of it and made my first bags - which have sold very well ever since.
I also hate to see vintage fabrics going to waste and so I decided that I would mostly use fabric remnants or up cycled fabrics in my products
This means I have great fun scouring shops and fairs for the perfect fabric and very little of the fabric I buy goes to waste.
I love adding applique to my products and using traditional embroidery techniques to give them a unique finish.
Lately I have been inspired by my local area, particularly the castle - which has a tower which leans at a greater angle than Pisa! - and the wonderful, crazy geese which inhabit the moat around the castle.
Currently my range of products includes appliqued cushion covers, Christmas decorations, luxury beaded cushions, Christmas aprons, bandanas (suitable for humans and pets ) as well as my original bags, each of which feature lovely enamel charms on the internal pocket.
Everything is made from scratch in my workroom (aka the dining room) with love and care.
I enjoy designing and making these lovely items and I hope you will enjoy browsing my shop. Please come back regularly as I will be adding more products as they are created.
